This app is for adults who are learning English. In this app you will find English content geared towards the working professional. Therefore, most of the content will be business-related. Most of you are working in a company, and a lot of you have foreign customers and colleagues that you need to communicate with. This is an app for you to communicate clearly, effectively, and confidently with whoever you come across in your job. But I know that problems exist, and I am here to guide you to rectify those problems.

You might be nervous when speaking English and often forget English words during your conversations. Or, you might know how to read and listen, but you can't speak. That's okay. This app is meant for you to review old words and phrases so you keep them fresh in your head, and to learn new words and phrases so you can be more confident when speaking English. It is meant to be an immersive English app. It is meant to be an environment that simulates an American workplace, so you can improve your English and advance your career. Better English ability translates to higher salaries and higher status in a company. So, whether that means getting a promotion, a raise, or getting a job overseas, I hope this app can help you achieve your dreams.

I am an American, and I have spent six years in China already, so I know how difficult it is to learn a new language. I've spent years learning Chinese until I realized something that changed my viewpoint on learning a language: it doesn't need to be perfect. You don't need to know what every word means. Even I don't know what every English word means. You need to let go of the stress that comes with learning anything, and make it fun.

如何像Native Speaker一样讲英语.mp3

This lesson is about how to speak like a native English speaker. This method focuses on speaking, but it also helps reading and listening as well. It's a perfect, three-in-one solution, to improve your English skills. 

When someone says, "I've learned English for a long time, but I still can't speak it," I know that it's because they simply don't practice speaking. They've practiced reading before so they can read prettywell. They've listened to a lot of English, via TV shows, movies and songs, so they can understand what people say in English. But, when it comes to speaking, they haven't had any opportunities to practice.

The best way to practice speaking is to go to a native English-speaking country, like America, and practice with the locals. But that is a far-fetched idea for many people, and one that requires a lot of preparation and money beforehand. 

The next best way is to repeat what a native speaker says when watching a movie, TV show, or podcast. For example, you can pause this podcast, and repeat what I say, exactly how I say it. This is the easiest way to improve your speaking without going to America. After every sentence, pause the audio, and repeat the sentence out loud. Your brain will naturally begin to remember each word you say, and you'll improve your speaking ability drastically.

A common pitfall to English learners is that they speak too slowly. You should strive to speak at the same speed as a native English speaker. After all, you want to speak English smoothly, confidently, and fluently. Therefore, you need to improve your speaking speed.

So, to speak faster, speak as I speak. Follow along with the script and say it as I say it. Don't fall back. And don't worry if you don't understand each word in the sentence. Your focus is on speed for this exercise, not understanding. 

Your baseline speed is slow, so you might feel the need to stop and say "this is too fast. I can't do this." Do not give in to this trap. Keep practicing your speed. Keep going faster. If you need to repeat sentences to maintain the same speed as me, then keep repeating for as long as you need to. Just make sure you are speaking out loud the same sentences that I am speaking, and at the same time and speed that I say them.

This way, you will be able to speak at the same speed as native speakers. And if you do this for 10 minutes everyday, you will see rapid improvement in your English-speaking ability in no time.

How to Speak Like a Native Speaker

Positive Language.mp3

When learning any language, it's important to learn positive language. Positive language creates a positive mindset, which is conducive for learning. Practice some positive language everyday. 

If you're learning English, you can use positive language to talk to yourself.

“Learning English makes me feel good.”

If you're talking to someone, compliment them in English. Say things like:

“You're the man” (if talking to a man)

If your friend is stressed out, say things like:

“I support you 100%. I got your back.”

“You're a strong person. You can do anything.”

Saying these simple sentences not only improves your English, but also helps build a more positive environment to learn better and faster. Try it and let me know how it works.

A friend recently told me she wants to improve her spoken English. 

Why? I wondered. Her English is already really good. Plus, she can listen well. If she moved to the US or England, she would have no problem fitting in. So I was curious why she said this to me. What she told me really struck a chord. She said:

Hm. I thought this was pretty interesting. This implies that her current life is not perfect. I mean, whose life ever is perfect? I might need to have a deep, one-on-one conversation with her to find out the real reason why she feels this way.

This coincided perfectly with a book I am reading, called The Power of Now. This book says to stop thinking about the past and the future. In fact, it says we should stop thinking altogether. Thinking is what distracts us from the present moment. And the present moment is all there is!

My friend kept thinking about a better future. She wants to live in Europe. But whenever that better future arrives, there's always something else that would make life better. We will always want more money. We will always want a better job. The mind is always craving more and better things.

But the mind is not you. You are not your mind. Stop thinking and be one with the present moment. Turn your attention inward and feel the emotions that arise in your body. Then let the emotions leave your body. You will feel peaceful.

My friend told me something else about her English ability: 

If you feel this way too about English, observe yourself when this thought arises. It's a negative feeling. Then let that negative feeling drift away. You are not lacking in confidence. It's not you. It's only a partof the mind, and the mind is not you! 

When you let these negative thoughts leave your mind, you become peaceful, still, and confident. You become liberated from negative emotions like anxiety and anger. All the negative emotions are stripped away, and all that's left are positive emotions like love, joy, happiness, and peace. The positive emotions are the real you. The negative emotions are not the real you. They need to leave! 

Learning English is not a struggle. It's a joy. Don't let negative emotions rob you of the joy in your learning journey. Find peace in the present moment, and you'll find confidence in your English ability.

The Power of Now

This lesson is about how learning English should be easy and fun.

English learning should not be hard, difficult, annoying, or impossible. English learning should be fun, easy, and enjoyable. If, at anytime you feel that English is hard, stop. Stop and think. Think about what would make English enjoyable to learn. 

The things that made English learning hard for you should not be used ever again. That includes textbooks. I do not recommend using any textbooks. Textbooks are boring. No? Do you like textbooks? Did you like being in school and reading textbooks? I did not. I don't think you liked it either. So, say "No" to textbooks. 

Say "Yes" to fun things like TV shows, movies, songs, and podcasts. I started learning Chinese through songs from Karen Mok (莫文蔚). Then I started watching and listening to a popular show called Xiang Sheng (相声) on YouTube. For English, there are even more shows and movies that are entertaining, and provide you with a way to improve your English ability. Watching movies is always fun, right? For TV shows, I've found that girls like to watch Two Broke Girls or Friends, and some people say they learned English specifically from those shows. Another great recommendation is The Office, a comedy series about working in an office. 

To improve your reading ability, you can find books and articles in the subjects you like, in English. For example, I like to run, so I read a book about running in Chinese. It improved my reading ability tremendously. When you read, don't look up every word you don't know. Just skip it or try to guess the meaning. The key to reading is to move through the reading without stopping.

There are plenty of American websites for you to improve reading in smaller doses. For example, CNBC.com is a news website that focuses on business news, tech news, and finance news. If you're interested in these topics, go to their website, and read some news articles. You'll improve your reading skills in no time.

All in all, you need to find content that you would normally consume in your native language. If you are Chinese and like to learn about new technology, find a book, podcast, or news site about new technology in English. If you are French and like to read about basketball, watch basketball highlights on YouTube in English or listen to basketball podcasts on Spotify.

Enjoy your English learning experience! Remember, it should be fun and easy, not difficult.

Learning Should Be Fun

Speak Out Loud.mp3

 helps you improve your speaking ability, 

When you speak out loud, you're also using your ears to listen to yourself speak. So when someone else says something that you've practiced speaking before, you'll be able to listen and 

for learning English, or any language. It's much different from thinking it in your head. You have to actually speak out loud. I made this mistake when learning Chinese. I thought I knew how to speak Chinese before, but really I just listened well and could speak in my head. When it came time to speak out loud, I wasn't really that good. It 

 to practice speaking Chinese with my coworkers to really get my speaking ability 

So even if you know what to say in your head, you still have to open your mouth and say it out loud. This way you'll start speaking faster and more fluently. 

 in language learning. It doesn't matter how slowly you start speaking. But it does matter that you learn to speak as quickly as a native speaker does. Go back to the beginning of this lesson and speak out loud everything that I said. Speak with the same speed as me. If you don't understand a word, don't worry, just speak it out loud and 

 the same speed as me. You can go back and check the meaning later. Don't focus on every word. Focus on speaking like me.
